  1. When will I hear from a coach?  Coaches will contact players the week after the coaches meeting. The current season coaches meeting date can be found on the website calendar. Contact LYSA if you have not heard from your coach by the Friday after the coaches meeting.

  2. What is the significance of Late Registration? Players signed up after regular registration ends will not be guaranteed of making a team. Registration is not complete until payment is received by LYSA. An enveloped being postmarked by the end of registration also counts. LYSA will attempt to place all kids that sign up during late registration, buthere is no longer a guarantee that we can

  3. How does registration work? Registration is in 2 parts – the first is entering the data needed to place your child within the system. This includes name, address, date of birth, etc. The second part is making a payment. Both parts must be completed in order for LYSA to put your child on a roster. If data is entered, but no payment is made, then the child will not be placed on a roster, and you will not be hearing from a coach.

  4. How will I know if my child can be put on a roster? When you register online (data entry part), and you give a valid email address, you should receive an email, generated automatically, that the data was successfully entered and accepted. This completes the first part of the registration process. Upon receipt of payment through the mail, a second email will be sent out stating payment is received and your child’s registration is fully complete. If you also make an online payment, your confirmation email should state that you have paid. If so, your child is completely registered and ready to go. If you register by mail, LYSA enters data by hand, and we endeavor to send an email out when we mark your account as paid (usually payment accompanies a mailed registration). If you have a cancelled check for the current season, that is also proof of completed registration for both parts.

  5. What is the late fee (and how do I avoid it)? Make sure that you register and have payment in by the end of regular registration.
    The end of registration for Spring 2008 will be January 31st, 2008.
    BOTH parts of the registration process, data entry and payment, must BE RECEIVED by the end of registration. If either is RECEIVED after that date, it is late, regardless of the date of LYSA getting the other part of the registration. If late, a $10 fee must be added in order to get the registration complete. Again, it is the date of receipt, as per the POSTMARK – NOT THE DATE YOU WRITE ON THE CHECK. Anything late will be held out until the late fee is added. The online payment system will automatically collect the fee after the end of regular registration.

  6. What is the draw? LYSA will assemble rosters of all players that are registered a few weeks before the coaches meeting each season. The draw will be done in accordance with National SAY rules, via computer. Coach’s children will be pulled out of the draw and assigned to the teams their parent coach, as applicable. Siblings will be placed together, unless parents request otherwise. Cored players will be placed back on their cores from last Fall, although it is possible that they could be involuntarily moved in order to balance the age levels of all teams. LYSA will work to minimize this, within the rules of the draw.  All players new to a division, and Instructional, will be randomly assigned to teams in order to balance out the ages (and genders in Instructional) as best possible. Once completed, the draw results are FINAL, and will NOT be altered unless an error by LYSA is identified.

  7. What is Cored? A Cored player is one that is playing in their second year at the current division level, having played at that level one year before. For example, if a child played Passers last Fall, and will play Passers again this Fall, they would be considered cored. If they did not play last fall, or played in another division, they would not be cored. A cored player will be placed back to the same team number they played on the previous year, fall to fall or spring to spring. All returning players at that level from the previous team will also be placed together. You should see familiar faces returning. The previous coach may or may not be assigned back to that team. This will form a nucleus of experienced players for each team. The rosters will then be evened out with non-cored players. Next year, the cored players would move up a division and lose their core, and the non-cored players will be cored and become next years experienced group. There is no guarantee that the entire core will come back the following season. Some kids may not register with LYSA or they may register late. Late registration will remove that player from the core. If all teams do not have enough players in a given age group, some players may be randomly removed from a core to balance an age group. LYSA will do everything it can within the rules to maintain the cores.

  8. How can I assure my child is placed with a friend? Both parents must agree to coach their team. If the coaches are chosen, both their children will be out of the draw, and placed together. There is no other way within the SAY rules to place children together.

  9. How can my child practice at a certain field, or specific night and time? Again, the parent must coach the child. Times, fields, and practice days are chosen by the coach, and not assigned by LYSA. We will work with coaches to fit their schedule. If you need a specific schedule for your kids, we’ll work with you if you coach. Otherwise, the process could quickly become cumbersome to the point it is unworkable. That is why no requests are honored.

  10. Can I ask for a specific coach? No. The only way to insure your child is with a specific coach is to coach with them. Both coaches (you and the one you want) must request each other prior to the draw. If you ask afterwards, there is no recourse.

  11. Can I avoid a specific coach? Yes, you can non-request a coach by adding a note on the resigstration form or online before the draw placing your child on a team. LYSA does not, as a rule, share your request with the coach.

  12. How are coaches chosen? Coaches are chosen based first on who volunteers to coach. As the kids get older, there are fewer and fewer teams, and usually fewer coaches. If a conflict arises the decision is based mainly on service time with LYSA and past history.

  13. How do refunds work? Full refunds, minus any online fee, are given if notice of withdrawal is given prior to the roster draw. Once placed on a roster, a refund (minus online fee and late fee) is only given if the player 1.) Relocated out of the area prior to the draw, 2.) Has a medical exemption - injury or 3.) makes a Select team. A letter stating the problem and requesting a refund, must be received by LYSA no later than the draw date on the registration form. Please clearly state why you are not playing and why you are eligible to get a refund.

  14. What happens if I enter information incorrectly when I enroll online? You receive, as part of the process, a confirmation email that includes the data you entered. It is your responsibility to insure the correct information is there. If it is wrong, and the error is not detected prior to your child being placed on a team, LYSA will work to fix the error, but your child will be placed on the late draw list, and will not be eligible to practice or play until the wait list is cleared out.

  15. How does the Late Draw work? All players properly and completely registered before the end of regular registration will be placed on a team, provided we can field at least one. Any registrations not complete, or completed after the end of regular registration, will be placed on the late draw list in the chronological order in which they have completed both parts of the registration process (enroll and pay including late fee). After practices have started, when the likelihood of players dropping is highest, LYSA will hold supplemental draws off the wait list. We will add players to teams, not to exceed a total roster size that would compromise the playing time of those already on the team. After the first late draw, LYSA will continue to maintain a late list, ranked by date of completed registration criteria, until two weeks into the season. At that point, we will regret the list and issue refunds to players not placed. Cored players who are late lose their core, and will be randomly assigned to a team.

  16. How does the late list work? Once the first draw is completed with all eligible (on-time) kids, the remaining registrations will be held until they complete the registration process. Once they have satisfied the data entry and payment criteria, the names will be added, in the order that things are completed, to the late draw list. LYSA will add, on a space available basis, from the top of the list to team rosters.  No information as to where on the list a child may be will be shared by LYSA, as it could be used to gain an unfair advantage for player placement.

  17. What can I do if I don’t like the nights practices are, or the field, or anything after rosters are set? You can withdraw from the league, lose your fees paid, and re-register. You will be required to re-pay, including late fees. Your child will go into the late draw, with no promise of making a team. And, it is possible that they may end up back on the same team, randomly assigned there by the computer draw system. This is not a recommended option. Results are not guaranteed, and the draw outcome will not be changed, unless you wish to re-pay and re-draw until you get what you want.
