  • Training by professional trainers
  • Under Armour uniform (approximately $35)
  • All game related expenses
  • 6-8  Games
  • Potential tournament

The Academy is unlike our other programs in that the teams are coached and trained by trainers we pay for.  The increase in registration fee reflects the increased costs to the club of hiring those trainers for the season.

Additional Information

The Loveland Soccer Academy run by LYSA will become the Storm FC Soccer Academy in 2021.

Since 2016 the Academy has been a bridge between the recreational and select (Storm FC) soccer programs in LYSA.  Each season from 60 to 80 players from Loveland and surrounding communities participate in this highly regarded program.

The Academy is a developmental program open to boys and girls from any community born in 2014 and 2015 who are interested in improving foundational soccer skills (first touch, dribbling, passing, 1v1s and small sided games) through more focused training and small sided games.  It is a fun program that provides a positive learning environment for developing soccer skills.

There is not a tryout process to participate in the Storm FC Academy.  The program and training are designed for players (families) who are serious about working on skill development, and who are mentally and physically ready for more advanced training.  If the Academy Directors judge a player who has signed up to not be ready to benefit from the training, they will talk to the parents in the first few weeks and suggest participating in the Passers program.

Anthony Doherty is the Storm Academy Director.  Anthony is pursuing his USSF C license.  He is the Assistant Varsity coach for Loveland High School and coaches a U14 Storm team.  He is assisted by Erika True who played competitively in college and coached a very successful D1 women’s college soccer team at Indiana State.  Additional professional trainers will be utilized as well.

Practices will be held twice a week at a local field.  Ball skill development will be built around the “Coerver” training methodology, a highly regarded approach for teaching soccer skills.

Each week players will be divided into teams and play small sided games to apply the skills they have been working on.  Approximately six times during the Spring our players will participate in small sided (friendly) games with Academy programs from nearby select soccer clubs.  More advanced players may be entered into an Academy league organized by the Cardinal Premier League.

Academy training will begin in early August and run through the end of October.  Specific days and times will be provided once the field assignments are made.  Practices will be held during the week and friendly games will likely take place on Saturdays.

Common Questions and Answers

If I don’t live in Loveland, can I participate?

Yes, the Academy is open to boys and girls from any community.

Can I sign up for Passers too?

No, there will be unavoidable conflicts with practice and game schedules.

Do I have to participate in both fall and spring seasons?

No, each season is independent.  You may choose to participate in the fall but not the spring and vice versa.

What if I sign up for Academy and then find it’s too much?

We will try to place you on a Passers team.  But there are no guarantees and once all Passers teams are filled, we won’t be able to accommodate more players.

Will boys and girls practice together?

No.  Boys and girls will practice on the same nights, but different times.

What if I start in Passers but find my child would benefit from the Academy experience, can I switch?

There will be a window of several weeks where this would be possible provided there is room in the Academy program.  Families will be charged the difference between the Passers and Academy programs.

Do I need to participate in Academy to play for Storm?

No.  Storm teams are formed through an open tryout process each spring that is open to all players.
